Registration and Auditing of CSSS Courses for UW Students,
UW Employees (Faculty/Staff/Other), and Non-UW individuals

For Current UW Students:

To Register for a Class:

Please follow the instructions for the Student Registration process at: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/regprocess.html

To Audit a Class:

Students may audit courses with permission of the instructor. You must have a STUDENT STATUS in order to audit a course, and you must pay regular tuition fees (unless requesting a faculty/staff tuition exemption). Please see the UW policy on auditing at: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/audit.html

For Returning UW Students:

Applications and information for returning students are available at: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/returning.html

For Current UW Employees (Faculty/Staff/Other):

Admission:

Eligible Current UW Employees who have never attended the UW can apply for admission as a non degree seeking student by completing a Nonmatriculated Admission Application for the Tuition Exemption Program. This form is located at: http://depts.washington.edu/registra/forms/nonmatricadm.pdf.

To Request the UW Employee Tuition/Exemption Benefit, and you DO NOT intend to apply to a graduate academic program at a later date:

Please follow the process at: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/tuition_exempt.html You should then submit a completed Faculty Staff Tuition Exemption Request form (Form UoW 1374) (website: http://depts.washington.edu/registra/forms/UoW1374.pdf) to the Registration Office, 225 Schmitz Hall, Box 355850, Seattle, Washington 98195-8580, at least ten days before the quarter begins. A separate tuition exemption form must be submitted each quarter. The request must be submitted by the quarterly deadline listed in the Academic Calendar (the website is at: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/calendar.html).

If you are a current UW Employee but DO wish to apply to an academic program at a later date,

you will need to apply to take courses as a Graduate Nonmatriculated student (GNM). Applications and instructions are available on-line at: https://www.grad.washington.edu/application/gnmstart.htm

For Non-UW Individuals:

Admission for Non-UW Individuals (basically, anyone from outside the University), and you DO NOT plan to apply to an Academic program,

you should apply (and register) to take courses as a Nonmatriculated (NM) student through the UW Non-Degree Enrollment process. The website is: http://www.outreach.washington.edu/nondegree/about/

Please first contact the instructor for permission! You will not have to submit transcripts for this status. Once you have obtained the instructor's verbal or email permission, you should go to the UW Non-Degree Enrollment web site for information and printable registration forms. Their website is http://www.outreach.washington.edu/nondegree/about/ When you get the form, take it to the instructor for his/her signature. The UW Non-Degree Enrollment web site has information on how to complete your registration and pay fees once the form is signed.

Admission for Non-UW Individuals (basically, anyone from outside the University), and you DO plan to apply to an Academic program,

then you should apply (and register) to take courses as a Graduate Nonmatriculated student (GNM). Applications and instructions are available on-line at: https://www.grad.washington.edu/application/gnmstart.htm
