The Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences (CSSS) will award a limited number of grants for graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral researchers working with CSSS faculty affiliates, and junior CSSS faculty affiliates to assist in presenting research and attending workshops or courses. Suggested target dates between July 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 are eligible for support.
The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis by the CSSS Executive Committee for the purpose of presenting papers and attending workshops or courses related to the long-term goals of CSSS, notably research in social statistics and quantitative methods in the social sciences, and collaborative research between social scientists and statisticians.
Preference will be given to proposals for which other sources of support are not available. Priority will be given to graduate students, post doctoral researchers and, on occasion, undergraduate students. CSSS Seed Grant recipients may also apply. The awardee should acknowledge the support of CSSS in the course of any presentations.
Any travel will be reimbursed at no more than the State contract fare rate for air travel, and no more than the University per diem rate for meals and accommodation, plus conference registration fees, up to a typical maximum of $1,000. A listing of the current UW Travel Contracts and Rates can be found at http://www.washington.edu/admin/travel/contracts.html. A report from the participant is required before reimbursement. The report should include a brief account of the conference or workshop, and a copy of any slides presented.
Applications should be sent to CSSS, Box 354320, Attn: Nick Ganoulis or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. All applications should be submitted by a CSSS faculty affiliate, including those on behalf of students or postdoctoral researchers with whom they are working. Applications are due by April 15, 2009.
